THE TAMING OF THE SHREW
The Taming of the Shrew is a comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1590 and 1591.   What is a shrew?  A woman with a violent, scolding, or nagging temperament; a scold. This is a comedy but this show will be portrayed in the era of cowboys in the1800's.  This is a halarious show and can be enjoyed all audiences.

The original script has the main plot depicting the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments—the "taming"—until she becomes a compliant and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina's more desirable sister, Bianca.

PETER PAN, THE PANTO
Traditionally performed at Christmas, for family audiences, British pantomime is now a popular form of theatre, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, cross-dressing, in-jokes, topical references, audience participation.
Panto story lines and scripts usually make no direct reference to Christmas, and are almost always based on traditional children's stories, including the fairy tales of Charles Perrault, Joseph Jacobs, Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimm Brothers - not to mention tales from the Arabian Nights.

This beloved fairy tale is retold in the style of English pantomime. The Darling family children receives a visit from Peter Pan, who takes them to Never-Never Land where an ongoing war with the evil Pirate Captain Hook is taking place.  This show is presentable for all ages.

BOB SMART THEATRE FESTIVAL
The Bob Smart Theatre Festival is a continuation of the long-standing, award winning Lenaea High School Theatre Festival, which for 53 years exceeded its mission to nurture the artistic expression and total theatre arts experience by becoming one of the largest and longest active high school theatre festivals of its kind in the nation. Named after the Lenaea Festival’s mentor and guiding force, the Bob Smart Theatre Festival is an annual 3-day event where up to 60 west coast high schools assemble to perform plays, scenes, monologues, and songs. The students compete for awards; however, the festival’s success is due to its educationally based and interactively supportive environment, which prominently features peer networking and workshops led by 40 theatre professionals and educators.

CURTAINS
Curtains is a musical with a book by Rupert Holmes, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and music by John Kander, with additional lyrics by Kander and Holmes.

Based on the original book and concept by Peter Stone, the musical is a set-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 Boston, Massachusetts and follows the fallout when the supremely untalented star of Robbin' Hood of the Old West is murdered during her opening night curtain call. It is up to a police detective who moonlights as a musical theater fan to save the show, solve the case, and maybe even find love before the show reopens, without getting killed himself.

FAT CATS AWARD SHOW

The FAT CAT Awards are a yearly tradition created to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of Franklin Theatre Company (FTC) and the people who make its productions possible. The FAT CAT Awards were conceived by Alisha Herrick (Graduated 2005), the Thespian Club President and a Senior in 2005. Since then, the FAT CAT Ceremony is still a student-led event with input from the Thespian Club and members of FTC. The FAT CAT Awards are FTC's version of the Tony awards but while the Tony's celebrate productions on Broadway, the FAT CATs recognize the Franklin Theatre Company’s  entire season of shows and performances during the school year.

Winners are selected by the FTC through a special voting process. First, a nominee ballot is created with each category (30 Categories) from Best Male Lead to Best Bit Part. Then, the top nominees from each category are placed on an official ballot. The official ballots are placed in a sealed box and given to the Artistic Director, Lisa Sandoval. The ballots are counted by Mrs. Sandoval and the winners are placed in a sealed envelope that is not opened until the ceremony.

FAT CAT stands for Franklin Association of Theatre: Character, Attitude, Talent.  Receiving a Fat Cat award means that you demonstrate these qualities. The FAT CAT Award is the most coveted of all awards presented at the ceremony. They are awarded only by Mrs. Sandoval and are not determined by the general ballot.  This is awarded to Seniors.

This event is sponsored by the Franklin Theatre Association
