CALIFORNIA MUSICAL THEATRE (CMT)

CMT began a relationship with the Franklin Theatre Company (FTC) through the "Theatre Education Partnership." That began in 2003 and was a strong support to the Franklin Theatre Company. Franklin's theatre students and audiences have viewed excellant and professional productions. Substantial funding by the CMT has gone towards providing performing artists to work with the students, training them in vocal music, acting, auditioning, and dance. CMT has provided resources such as costumes, props and set pieces at no cost to the Franklin Theatre Company. However, 2006 was the last time this support was provided.  CMT now must concentrate it's funds to help other theatre programs and is proud to have been a part of the FTC helping this program to build a great beginning to developing a premiere theatre program in the Elk Grove Community.

The CMT provides internship for high school students 16 and older through summer work at the Music Circus. Many students have benefited from this internship to work side-by-side with professional theatre personnel learning more about the various activities of the theatre and its operations.  FTC has been proud to have many students participate in this program.

The program that supports the relationship between CMT and schools is the "The Theatre Education Partnerships" through the CMT Outreach and Education Program (click title to see brochure).

"The Theatre Education Partnerships introduces junior high and high school students to the world of musical theatre. This artist-in-residence program integrates performing arts into the existing theatre curriculum. Our artists teach musical theatre classes in acting, dancing and vocal music. During the program students may attend a Broadway Series performance. This collaborative project requires artists and teachers to plan together, creating a partnership with the school that is essential to the success of the project. Our goal is to help schools make musical theatre accessible to students by providing artistic support that would not otherwise be available."

Spring performances were supported by the CMT through The Theatre Education Partnerships and those performances include students from Toby Johnson Junior High School.

Both the high school and junior high school have benefited from this relationship and are very grateful for the support for our spring musical performances. We consider this relationship a valuable asset to the education and training of students interested in the theatre arts. We commend and thank the CMT for providing such a great program.
